Internationalism first!

107 years since the Workers’ Revolution

From the storms of th first imperialist World War, a wave of revolutions emerged sweeping over Europe. Easter Uprising in Ireland 1916, February Revolution and Great October Socialist Revolution in Russia 1917, the Spartacist Uprising in Germany 1919, Biennio Rosso in Italy 1919–1920 – as some of the most famous and significant.

As part of the wave of revolutions, the Finnish working class also raised in revolution, in which it received irreplaceable help from the Russian working class. Supported by German and Swedish imperialists, the White-Guardist reactionary slaughterers defeated the revolution. The 1918 Finnish Workers’ Revolution reminds us of the importance of internationalism in struggle against imperialism and world reaction.

Finnish working class and people did not give up without a fight, but they waged arduous struggle for 108 days of glory from the 27th of January until the 15th of May. Russian supporters included, about 6,000 fell in battle, almost 9,000 were executed and almost 12,000 died at White concentration camps. Disappeared ones included, almost 30,000 Red combatants achieved immortality by giving their lives for freedom in one of the bloodiest civil wars in Europe. Today similar persistence is being displayed by the people of Palestine, who have given already more than 46,000 lives in resistance against the Zionist slaughterers’ offensive since October 2023.

Today’s imperialist Republic of Finland is a heir to the 1918 White slaughter rule. All over the world it supports genocidal rulers, like Israel’s Netanyahu, and it maintains a racist society in its own country. In the name ”national security”, it tramples international agreements and its own Constitution, and restricts people’s democratic rights. With the same excuse, it gives billions to new war machines, and at the same time claims cynically that there is no money for wage increases or healthcare. Against all this, the Reds fought and gave their lives.

We remember the anniversary of the 1918 Finnish Workers’ Revolution with a demonstration in Itäkeskus, Helsinki, on Saturday 25th of January, 2025. We warmly welcome everybody to remember the Revolution and hold high the spirit of internationalism. We wish diverse revolutionary, solidarity and other appropriate signboards, flags and other materials. There will be an open mic for speeches.
