International working women’s day 2025 in Tampere

Anti-imperialist Collective reports on the international working women’s day 2025 in Tampere on Instagram (@antiimperialistinenkollektiivi).

The activists of AIC started the day by handing out flyers in Hervanta. After this, in the afternoon, a rally organized by AIC gathered at the old city hall in stark contrast to the election campaign circus going on at the square at the same time. On the main banner of the rally there was the slogan ”Down with imperialism and patriarchy!”. In addition to this, the participants had with them signs that read ”More pay – end the deterioration of the condition of women!” and “Long live the Anti-imperialist League!”. AIC held a speech in which the talks about equality of the electoral parties was condemned as hypocrisy as they all support imperialism.

After this the activists of the AIC joined the march which gathered hundreds of participants and different organizations. Slogans for equal pay, among others, were shouted at the march.

In the end rally of the march at the Central Square, speeches were heard from Left Alliance and The Friends of Kurdistan, among others. During the speeches, a provocateur entered the rally. The man started threatening a female union activist, and the activists of AIC strongly told him to leave. Instead of leaving, he started fighting, but ended up on the ground immediately. The police reacted to the situation only after several minutes and focused on nagging at the activists for defending the demonstration on their own. After this it completely randomly attacked a youth and tried to detain them. The activists of the AIC, many other entities and individuals surrounded the police and demanded the immediate release of the youth, upholding democratic rights and demanding grounds to the detention. The youth also showed their will and ability to resist the detention physically, so the police retreated and started demanding IDs. Also for this, legal grounds were demanded, which the police was unable to provide, so they threatened with arrests until they got some contact information.

AIC concludes their report:

“Women’s day 2025 in Tampere was a day of anti-imperialist action. When we go forward relentlessly and without fear, supporting and waging anti-imperialist struggle everywhere, we will see the imperialist world order come crashing down. It is the precondition for women’s emancipation everywhere.”
